Safer Cross-Border Mineral Deals: Stablecoins, Escrow and Due Diligence

September 18, 2026

The hardest part of a cross-border mineral transaction is rarely finding a payment method. The real challenge is establishing confidence in the counterparty, the mineral source, the commercial terms, the evidence and the release conditions. Stablecoins and escrow controls are most useful when they form part of a wider due-diligence process.

Start with the counterparty, not the payment

Before discussing payment, buyers should understand who they are dealing with. Review company information, marketplace history, authorised representatives, licences where applicable, reputation signals and any available verification evidence. Sellers should perform similar checks on buyers and funding capacity.

Verify the mineral opportunity

Mineral transactions can require evidence covering origin, title or licence, concession geography, assay results, quantity, custody, export readiness and logistics. GoldConnect’s Digital Mineral Passports and verification workflows are designed to organise this evidence around the opportunity.

Put the commercial terms in a structured deal record

Use a private Deal Room or equivalent written transaction record to document the agreed amount, mineral description, delivery basis, inspection conditions, documents, release conditions and responsibilities. Clear release conditions are particularly important when funds are being held pending performance.

Use stablecoins as a payment rail, not a substitute for verification

Stablecoins can provide an efficient digital settlement route for users who already operate with crypto assets. GoldConnect supports selected stablecoin payment options through NOWPayments. The platform verifies payment state through provider callbacks and can connect that status to membership or transaction workflows.

But blockchain finality is not the same as commercial certainty. Once funds are sent, errors can be difficult to reverse. Always check the network, address, amount and counterparty context before payment.

Use escrow-style controls for agreed release conditions

GoldConnect’s stablecoin escrow workflow separates funding from release. The transaction can move through funded, release-requested, disputed, refunded or released states. Where NOWPayments Custodial Processing is enabled, funds can remain in provider custody while agreed transaction conditions are completed.

Keep evidence throughout the transaction

For higher-value transactions, maintain an evidence trail covering communications, documents, assay reports, identity information, custody events, logistics milestones, payment references and release decisions. GoldConnect’s broader transaction-control environment is designed to make that process more structured.

No technology removes transaction risk completely

Stablecoins, escrow workflows and marketplace verification can reduce certain forms of friction and improve visibility. They cannot guarantee that every commercial, regulatory or technical risk has been eliminated. Independent legal, financial, compliance, assay and logistics review may still be necessary.
