How Stablecoin Escrow Works on GoldConnect Africa

GoldConnect Africa’s stablecoin escrow workflow is designed to give buyers and sellers a clearer transaction process after commercial terms have already been agreed. It connects payment status with the marketplace transaction record instead of treating a crypto transfer as an isolated event.

What the GoldConnect escrow workflow is designed to do

The workflow tracks the main transaction stages: creation, payment initiation, funded status, release request, dispute, refund or completed release. Buyer and seller can therefore refer to the same transaction record while GoldConnect retains a history of important status changes.

Where NOWPayments Custodial Processing is enabled, funds can remain in NOWPayments Custody rather than being immediately treated as released to the seller. This distinction is important: a standard payment checkout and a hold-and-release workflow are not the same thing.

Step 1: Agree the transaction before funding

The buyer and seller should first agree the commercial terms. This may include product or mineral description, quantity, grade, assay requirements, price, delivery terms, inspection conditions, logistics responsibilities, documentation and release conditions.

GoldConnect users can support this process with Deal Rooms, offers, verification evidence and Digital Mineral Passports.

Step 2: Create the escrow record

The buyer creates the stablecoin escrow record and enters the agreed transaction amount, seller information, supported stablecoin network and relevant payout details. The record acts as the operational reference for the funding and release process.

Step 3: Fund through NOWPayments

The buyer continues to the NOWPayments payment flow and receives the payment instructions for the selected currency or network. GoldConnect does not mark the transaction as funded simply because the buyer returns to the site. The platform waits for the provider’s verified callback and updates the escrow record when the required payment state is reached.

Step 4: Hold while transaction conditions are completed

With Custodial Processing enabled, funds are intended to remain in provider custody while the parties complete the agreed transaction conditions. Depending on the deal, that may involve document review, independent assay, inspection, chain-of-custody events, shipping milestones or other agreed evidence.

Step 5: Request release or open a dispute

When the buyer is satisfied that the agreed release conditions have been met, the buyer can request release. If there is a material problem, either party can raise a dispute through the transaction workflow. A dispute freezes the normal release path while the issue is reviewed.

Step 6: Complete release or refund and record the reference

The final external payout or refund is completed through the relevant provider process and the reference can be recorded in GoldConnect. This creates a stronger audit trail than relying on screenshots or messages alone.

Important: escrow does not replace due diligence

GoldConnect’s workflow is a transaction-control layer. It does not independently guarantee mineral authenticity, legal title, export permission, counterparty solvency, assay accuracy or delivery performance. Parties should obtain appropriate legal, regulatory, technical and financial advice for high-value transactions.
